Equal show by DMK, AIADMK in delta

The central region has 41 assembly segments in eight districts. In all segments, AIADMK and DMK fared well. In a few districts like Thanjavur, DMK secured four seats while AIADMK got three segments.

In Tiruvarur, only one seat was secured by AIADMK while the remaining three were bagged by DMK. Meanwhile in Tiruchy district, out of nine segments, AIADMK secured five seats while DMK managed to clinch four and in Pudukkottai out of six, both AIADMK and DMK shared three each. However, Nagapattinam, Ariuyalur and Perambalur favoured AIADMK. 

Out of six segments in Nagapattinam, AIADMK secured five while DMK got one. Perambalur and Ariyalur were secured by AIADMK. 

Interestingly, in Tiruvidaimaruthur in Thanjavur district, DMK candidate Ko Vi Chezhian lost to AIADMK candidate U Settu by just 532 votes but NOTA polled 1899 votes in the segment. Similarly, in Thirumayam in Pudukkottai distirct DMK candidate S Ragupathy won with a margin of 766 votes. 

Interestingly in Thirumayam, NOTA polled 2114 votes. Meanwhile, big guns like government Chief Whip R Manoharan who contested Tiruchy West lost to former DMK minister KN Nehru by a margin of 28,415 votes and former minister R Vaithilingam lost to DMK’s M Ramachandran by a margin of 3645 votes in Orathanadu.
