CHENNAI: The Faculty of Occupational Therapy, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, organised a three-day international conference with the theme, 'Occupational Therapy in Action' reflecting the growing importance of occupational therapy in enhancing participation, functional independence and quality of life among people.
The conference witnessed over 1,000 participants from all over India, representing various institutions, hospitals, rehabilitation centres and academic organisations.
Dr BS Desikamani, secretary, Tamil Nadu State Allied and Healthcare Council, inaugurated the conference. He stated that the value of movement is the essence of occupational therapy. He advised students that a person may have limited, moderate or extensive knowledge but what truly matters is the effort invested in building knowledge in a way that benefits one’s career and profession and bringing personal satisfaction. He emphasised that success depends on the level of effort and commitment one is willing to make.
The conference featured scientific sessions, keynote lectures, panel discussions, and workshops, providing a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and professional growth.
Delegates from Canada, the UAE, Singapore and the UK strengthened global engagement and cross-cultural learning. The overwhelming participation underscored the increasing visibility of Occupational Therapy in India's healthcare landscape.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Uma Sekar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Mahesh Vakamudi, Registrar Dr S Senthilkumar, HoD of Occupational Therapy Dr P Raghuram and Organising Secretary Dr S Loganathan participated in the conference.
