CHENNAI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) FTTH customers are facing delays in receiving security deposit refunds after surrendering connections.
Based on reports, the complaints stem from issues including poor network stability and customer service provided by BSNL.
Sriraag VS, an Otteri resident who disconnected his connection in September 2025, has yet to receive his deposit, even after nearly four months. Sriraag noted that despite persistent efforts, he was unable to obtain a fully functional IFTV service.
The service, plagued by disruptions, has left the customer disappointed with the overall experience.
"The Wifi connection is not stable and glitchy. Thus, I cut the connection after failed efforts. I am yet to receive the deposit amount of Rs 1,030," said Sriraag.
"In many instances, several people don't follow up on the deposit amount. In the case of FTTH payment, the company imposes a fine on customers even if the payment is delayed by a day.
However, when customers surrender the connection, no proper communication on the refund process is provided by the BSNL," said V Sathiabalan, a former telecom advisory member. Similarly, Manohar, another BSNL customer from Chennai, got his refund only after more than a year.
When contacted, an official attached to the BSNL said, "Normally, the amount is refunded within 60 days. If anyone has issues, they can come to us directly."
