Cops ride triples, two die in accident

In a bizzare and blatant violation of traffic rules, two, including a cop, two died in a road accident when three persons including two cops went triples on a bike at Madurai, on Thursday.

One more cop sustained serious injuries in the accident. The deceased are Ranjith Kumar, a Special Branch policeman at Coimbatore, and his friend, Balaji, a college student at Madurai. They were joined by one more cop, Saravanan, also working at Special Branch, Coimbatore, for a friend’s marriage at Sivaganga. The trio went on a motor cycle disregarding traffic rules. The cops were also involved in other violations including speeding. They were not wearing helmets. When the trio crossed Puliankulam road in Silaiman in Madurai they tried to overtake a lorry without noticing a TNSTC bus coming in the opposite direction. While trying to apply brake, the bike skidded and went under the wheels of the lorry and all were run over killing two on the spot.  Silaiman police have booked a case and are investigating the incident.
