CHENNAI: The city police arrested a 33-year-old man, husband of a woman constable, under the Pocso Act for allegedly harassing a schoolgirl in T Nagar.
The victim is a class 10 girl, police said. The accused, identified as Bhoopalan, lives in the same neighbourhood as the victim, continually harassed the girl when she walked to and back from school, police said.
On Monday evening, when the girl was walking back from school, the accused allegedly made inappropriate gestures at her, after which the girl informed her parents and approached the police.
Following an enquiry, the police arrested Boobalan on Monday night. Teynampet All Women Police Station (AWPS) personnel arrested the accused. The police said that he worked at a jewellery showroom. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
