CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has increased the train frequency on the blue line from Airport Metro to Wimco Nagar. The move aims to reduce waiting times at stations and ensure a faster commute during the peak hours (8-11 am and 5-8 pm) has been implemented with immediate effect.
Due to the increasing footfall on the blue line, CMRL has planned to operate additional Metro trains to facilitate smoother travel for passengers.
From Airport to Alandur, the trains, during peak hours, will be operated every six minutes, from Alandur to Washermenpet, they will run every three minutes, and, between Washermenpet and Wimco Nagar, trains will run every six minutes, as per the updated frequency.
This initiative is aimed at easing congestion, improving travel comfort, and ensuring reliable and efficient metro services during high-demand periods.
It is appreciated that the frequency of the trains have been changed to address congestion. With growing footfall in the past few months, this is the need of the hour. Likewise, passengers also urge CMRL to strengthen last-mile connectivity
Harish, a regular commuter.
