CHENNAI: The police arrested two men for stealing a mobile phone from a textiles businessman, who fell asleep at the Koyambedu bus terminus, and recovered three stolen phones from them.

The complainant, Ranjithkumar (35), a native of Harur in Dharmapuri district, travelled to Chennai for business purposes. He came to the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu early on Tuesday morning to board a bus back to Dharmapuri.

At the terminus, he fell asleep for a short while. When he woke up, he realised that his mobile phone was stolen.

Ranjithkumar filed a complaint with the CMBT police station after which a police team examined CCTV footage and apprehended two individuals, identified as Rajaram (21) of Polur taluk in Tiruvannamalai, and Anbu alias Arasu (22) of Koyambedu. Three mobile phones, including the complainant's phone, were seized from their possession.

Investigation revealed that Rajaram had one previous criminal case registered against him. Police said they were conducting an intensive search for another accomplice involved in the case.

Both arrested suspects were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
