According to a senior Corporation official, the civic body has been given Rs 3 crore to construct more parks in the city. When asked about the location of the new parks, the official told DTNext that it is yet to be ascertained.
The civic body had earlier received around Rs 60 crore under AMRUT to construct new parks in the city.
The corporation had planned to construct 8 new parks in 2015-2016, 24 parks in 2016-2017 and 19 parks between 2017 and 2020.
“We have opened all the eight parks that were planned in 2015-2016 and completed works on 4 out of 24 parks planned in 2016-2017. Works on the remaining 20 parks are underway,” the official added.
The corporation is in the process of identifying sites to construct 19 parks planned between 2017 and 2020.
Tenders have also been floated to construct a children’s park at the Cancer Institute near Buckingham canal.
“The park will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.1 crore and will have play equipment and walkways for elders,” the official said.
In another development, the civic body has recently floated tenders inviting private contractors to maintain various parks.
According to its official website, the civic body is maintaining as many as 525 parks in the city.
