CHENNAI: A section of RK Mutt Road caved in on Thursday morning, exposing a cavity nearly five feet deep and rendering the stretch unsafe.
Following the cave-in, the Greater Chennai Corporation cordoned off the affected portion, and the police erected barricades to prevent vehicular movement.
Officials from the Metro Water Board (CMWSSB) and the Corporation inspected the site to assess the damage.
A Metro Water Board area engineer said the collapse occurred due to a gravity sewer line giving way beneath the road. Restoration work is in progress and is expected to be completed within one or two days, the official said.
The stretch has witnessed similar cave-ins in the past, with earlier repairs taking several days to complete.
