CHENNAI: The city police arrested a 27-year-old physiotherapist for allegedly drugging and raping a 20-year-old woman, who joined the physiotherapy clinic that the accused runs in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar as an intern.
The arrested person was identified as Karthikeyan. Police said that he took the intern to his apartment in Kolathur on Saturday in the pretext of an emergency case, and then raped her after spiking her soft drink. The victim, a student at a private college, was an intern at the centre for the past few months.
After gaining consciousness, she realised that she had been sexually assaulted and then informed her parents, following which a complaint was filed at the Kolathur all women police station (AWPS).
After investigations, Karthikeyan was arrested. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
In another incident, the family of a Class 7 girl and student organisations protested outside the Valsaravakkam police station on Saturday night seeking action against a government mini bus conductor, alleging that the latter sexually harassed the girl.
The conductor allegedly made obscene gestures at the girl during the journey on Friday morning. A case has been registered, and the accused is yet to be arrested, police said.
