CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his mother at their rented home in Kalamegham Salai, Mugappair West, after she persistently pressured him to seek employment.
The deceased has been identified as Auxilia (56), a resident of Mugappair West. She lived with her son, Nikhil Britto. Nikhil, who previously worked at a private software company in Bengaluru, had quit his job a few months ago and was staying at home. Auxilia, who was reportedly in poor health, had been regularly urging her son to find a new job.
The crime came to light when Nikhil allegedly sent a message to his friend, Bramwell, confessing to the murder. Alerted by this message, Bramwell rushed to Nikhil's residence. Simultaneously, acting on information received at the police control room, a police team from the Nolambur station arrived at the scene.
As the police entered the premises, they found Nikhil attempting to flee. He was apprehended immediately. Inside the house, the officers discovered Auxilia's body with stab wounds.
Following a complaint filed by the house owner, Samathanadurai (43), a case was registered under the murder section at the Nolambur police station. The body was sent to the KMC Government Hospital for post-mortem.
During interrogation by a team led by the Nolambur Inspector, Nikhil Britto confessed to attacking and killing his mother with a mobile phone charger wire and a knife. Police have seized the charger wire, two knives, and Nikhil's mobile phone as evidence.
Investigation revealed that the accused holds a BE degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The arrested accused, Nikhil Britto, was produced before a court Thursday and has been remanded to judicial custody as per the court's order.
