CHENNAI: A 17-year-old boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for stealing over Rs 65,000 cash from the tea stall he works in at Koyambedu.

The tea shop is located at the junction of Jawaharlal Nehru Road and 100 Feet Road, and the shop's cashier, Samsheer (52), filed the complaint. Samseer stated that on the night of January 23, he had kept Rs 68,450 in salary payments for staff in a tin container inside the locked shop.

When he returned to open the shop early on January 24, he found the shutter lock broken and the money missing. Following his complaint at the CMBT police station, a case was registered and an investigation launched.

A team led by an Inspector from the station examined CCTV footage from the premises. Their probe led them to a 17-year-old co-worker, a native of Assam. During interrogation, the minor confessed to the crime.

Investigators revealed that the juvenile had secretly taken the shop keys around midnight, opened the lock, stolen the cash, and hidden it. From the stolen sum of Rs 68,450, the police successfully recovered Rs 60,000, with the remainder reportedly spent by the accused.

Following the investigation, the 17-year-old was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Monday, and necessary legal proceedings have been initiated.
