CHENNAI: The State government’s Central Polytechnic College at Taramani will soon be equipped with ‘University Plus Academic Lab Pack’, a comprehensive software suite that will offer full functionality for design, analysis, and simulation, enabling hands-on learning for future engineers, with variations for teaching labs versus funded research.
In a bid to create more job opportunities for students, the Higher Education Department has recently decided to upgrade the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) campus in Taramani at Rs 100 crore.
A senior official from the department said, “The proposed 3D modelling software provides the maximum scalable range of mechanical Computer Aided Design (CAD) product improvement packages tools in the present technology. The software will be used for technical drawing and production drawing practical for mechanical engineering at the institution.”
Around 50 users can access a single server. Features like parametric design, simulation, and manufacturing extensions will be available for both faculty members and the students. “The new software can be easily installed, and will also provide a single license for deployment across many computers through campus-wide licensing. It will also train students with extra knowledge used in leading product development organisations,” he explained.
S Venkatesh, a senior software consultant handling the Lab Pack, said that it was an important tool for engineering and technical education, offering industry-standard design capabilities beyond the free student versions. “It’s widely available for universities and colleges to purchase for their labs. The software will also provide a single license for installation across many computers upto maximum 500 concurrent users asper local requirements.,” he added.
