CHENNAI: The Saidapet police have arrested a government hospital nurse for allegedly drugging a colleague and stealing her gold chain. Approximately 48 grams of gold, melted, has been recovered.

The accused has been identified as Nancy Nisha, 37, of Thandandar Nagar. The victim is Sunitha, 31, of Adambakkam, who works as a nurse alongside Nisha at the Government Children's Hospital in Egmore.

According to police, the incident occurred on October 10, 2025. Nisha allegedly insisted that Sunitha, who was stressed due to family circumstances, accompany her to Nisha's house in Saidapet.

According to police, the incident occurred on October 10, 2025. Nisha allegedly insisted that Sunitha, who was stressed due to family circumstances, accompany her to Nisha's house in Saidapet.

There, Sunitha consumed mushroom soup given by Nisha, after which she fell unconscious. Upon waking around 7 pm, Nisha claimed she had to leave urgently and dropped Sunitha off at Saidapet railway station on a two-wheeler.

During investigation, it was revealed that Nisha had allegedly mixed a sedative into the soup. Following her arrest on January 12, police discovered that Nisha had melted the stolen chain into a gold bar and pledged it at a pawn shop in Vyasarpadi, from where it was recovered.

Further police interrogation revealed a similar prior allegation against the accused. On November 15, 2025, Nisha is accused of drugging another nurse colleague, Thangammal, with a sedative-laced juice at the same hospital.

After Thangammal became unconscious, Nisha allegedly pretended to take her home safely in an auto-rickshaw and stole her thali chain weighing approximately 4.75 sovereigns during the journey. Nisha was arrested in that case and was released on bail just last week.

Following interrogation in the sedative laced soup case, the arrested accused, Nancy Nisha, was produced before a court on Monday.

She has been remanded to judicial custody.
