

CHENNAI: Gold rate in the city surged by Rs 1,840 per sovereign (8 grams) on March 28 (Saturday).
The shiny metal is now priced at Rs 1,09,660 per sovereign and Rs 13,660 per gram, a rise of Rs 230.
On March 27, the yellow metal was priced at Rs 1,07,440 per sovereign and Rs 13,430 per gram.
Meanwhile silver prices increased by Rs 5 to be priced at Rs 250 per gram (Rs 2,50,000 per kg) on March 28. On March 27, it was priced at Rs 245 per gram.
Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 66,720 per sovereign (Rs 8,340 per gram) on March 28, 2025, to Rs 1,09,660 per sovereign (Rs 13,660 per gram) on March 28, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 42,940 or about 64.35%.
