Chennai gold price dips by Rs 800, silver costs Rs 255 per gram on April 2, 2026

CHENNAI: Gold prices saw a dip in the city on Thursday (April 2), falling by Rs 800 per sovereign (8 grams).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,11,600 per sovereign and Rs 13,950 per gram, after a drop of Rs 100 per gram.

On April 1, gold was priced at Rs 1,12,400 per sovereign and Rs 14,050 per gram.

Silver prices decreased

Silver prices also dropped by Rs 10 to be priced at Rs 255 per gram (Rs 2,55,000 per kg) on April 2. On April 1, silver was priced at Rs 265 per gram.

Gold rate today vs same day last year

Gold continues to remain significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have risen from Rs 68,080 per sovereign (Rs 8,510 per gram) on April 2, 2025, to Rs 1,11,600 per sovereign (Rs 13,950 per gram) on April 2, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 43,520 or about 63.93%.
