The city police's Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) had received a tip-off about the movement of narcotics in Nolambur police station limits and coordinated with the local police and increased vigilance.
During vehicle checks at a service road, a police team intercepted a car on suspicion. The occupants gave evasive replies, and a vehicle check ensued. Police found methamphetamine and ganja stashed inside the vehicle.
Subsequently, the police arrested Praveen (30) of Padi, Sarathkumar (24) of CIT Nagar and Gopinath (23) of Kottur. Praveen worked as a fashion designer while Sarathkumar and Gopinath are two-wheeler mechanics.
Gopinath is a history sheeter and has four criminal cases against him, police said. They seized 51 grams of methamphetamine, 12.4 kg of ganja, 190 grams of OG ganja and six mobile phones from the trio.
In another case in Koyambedu, the CMBT police arrested Lokesh (29) of Tirupatthur and seized 56 grams of methamphetamine from him.
Police said that he is the fifth accused in the case, in which the accused reached out to their clientele via the Grindr app.
In another case, the Ayanavaram police arrested Lokesh (29) of Villivakkam and seized 29 syringes from him.
Five of his associates were arrested last Friday.
The arrested persons were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
