Chennai: Drug case accused returns from Singapore, arrested from airport

The man, identified as Amar (30) of Old Washermenpet, is the sixth accused in the case registered by the Tirumangalam police in November 2025. Amar, who was said to be part of the gang, was in Singapore when the previous arrests were made, police said. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

CHENNAI: An absconding accused in a drug case involving a film producer was arrested by the Chennai police when he returned from Singapore on Monday.

Based on a look-out circular issued against him, the immigration authorities alerted the police after the accused landed here.

The man, identified as Amar (30) of Old Washermenpet, is the sixth accused in the case registered by the Tirumangalam police in November 2025. Amar, who was said to be part of the gang, was in Singapore when the previous arrests were made, police said. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Following a tip-off that the anti-narcotics intelligence unit (ANIU) of the city police received, the Tirumangalam police apprehended Dhyaneshwaran (26) of Padi and seized 4 LSD stamps from him.

Based on information he provided, the police arrested Sharath (30), Mohammed Masthan Sarfudeen (44), and Srinivsan the next day, and seized narcotics and cash from them.

Sarfudeen had co-produced a Tamil film. Subsequently, a police team arrested a small-time film distributor, Dinesh Raj (39) of Nungambakkam, on December 6.
