CHENNAI: A ward councillor has raised concerns regarding the operation of commercial establishments on Decastor Road, noting that they disturb the sleep of residents.

He also urged shop owners to strictly adhere to prescribed closing times in the council meeting on Friday. Councillor Ambethvalavan, Ward 73, raised the issue of the operation of commercial establishments on Decastor Road in Pulianthope, which reportedly begin operating as early as 3 am.

He noted that a large number of youths travel from across the city and the suburbs to eat biryani, creating a crowd that disrupts the neighbourhood at night.

Furthermore, the locality houses two Corporation-run girls’ schools and a hospital, which makes it difficult for residents to navigate the streets.

Sanitation workers too, have reportedly found discarded injection syringes on the street.
