CHENNAI: The city police arrested a college student and the husband of a woman police constable in Saidapet for alleged possession of LSD stamps and ganja, meant for distribution to New Year party goers.
The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) of the city police received a tip-off about the movement of narcotics in Saidapet police limits, after which a team was on vigil on Theradi Street near Saidapet railway station.
During the operation, the police questioned and searched two men who were standing with two two-wheelers in a suspicious manner. The search led to the recovery of narcotic substances kept for sale. The officials seized 50 LSD stamps, 9 MDMA tablets, 50 grams of ganja, ganja paste (Malana paste), 2 mobile phones, and 2 two-wheelers.
The arrested persons were identified as Prabhakaran (27) of Saidapet and Harisudha (23) of Selaiyur. Police said Harisudhan is a fourth-year college student, while Prabhakaran is married to a woman constable.
Further investigation is under way to identify the source of the narcotics and to ascertain whether more people are involved in the network.
