CHENNAI: Motorists and residents report difficulties caused by stray cattle on First Avenue Road, Anna Nagar.
Anna Nagar, a high-profile residential locality, is now becoming a cattle zone. The residents have said that it is a common sight to see cattle roaming on the road, especially during and after the rains.
"There is a cattle shed on the New Avadi Road. Whenever it starts drizzling, it seems like these cattle are let loose from the shed. And they are seen with the tags in their neck. They roam around the roads disrupting the traffic.
Even while driving the vehicle, it could lead to accidents. The cattle at times roam around the K4 police station area also," Sandhya V, a resident, said.
Many a time, they lie down in the middle of the road and cause obstruction to vehicle movement. There are several incidents when the motorists escape from hitting the animal on Chennai roads.
Sandhya also highlights the lethargic attitude of the Greater Chennai Corporation officials in taking a proper step to remove the cattle.
"The officials, unless we raise a complaint about any civic issue remains silent. Why do they wait for us to complain? Why can’t they come forward by themselves? Even when we raise a complaint about stray cattle, they come after two days and finally post on X that the cattle have been cleared," Sandhya said.
