CHENNAI: A massive damaged stretch left unrepaired for over a month on 11th Avenue in Ashok Nagar, in the city, following Metro Water construction work, has become a serious safety hazard for residents and two-wheeler riders, particularly at the busy junction near 67th Cross Street.

Due to construction work carried out by the Metro Water board on 11th Avenue road up to 67th Cross Street in Ashok Nagar, both roads have been severely damaged.

While the construction work has been completed, no extensive measures were taken to fix the damage; instead, only the potholes on 67th Cross Street were relaid using concrete. However, the large damaged stretch on 11th Avenue remains unfixed to this day.

Residents say the damaged stretch has caused significant inconvenience and poses a serious threat to two-wheeler riders. The stretch is located near a turning point at the 67th Cross Street junction, making navigation extremely difficult, especially at night.

Arun, a regular two-wheeler commuter, said it is hard to navigate the stretch due to the loose gravel surface. “The stretch is right at the turning point. The loose gravel causes imbalance, increasing the risk of accidents,” he said.

An auto driver, Ravi, pointed out, “Most other damaged roads in Ashok Nagar are currently being relaid due to the upcoming elections.

Officials should take immediate action and fix this stretch as part of the ongoing road relaying work,” he urged.
