Stating that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had been approached to allow transportation of cash below Rs.1 lakh without documents, he said check on cash flow would become stringent after April 22 when the filing of nominations start. While cash below Rs 50,000 could be transported without documents, amounts below Rs.10 lakh that were seized would not be referred to the income tax department, he averred.
Amounts below Rs.1 lakh if seized would be returned to owners within 24 hours on production of proper documents he said and added that amounts below Rs 5 lakh if seized would be retained with officials for three days.
For the first time, people will be allowed to apply for postal ballot online. First their EPIC numbers would be taken to check its validity following which they could apply online for postal ballots, he added.
Referring to an article published in DT Next, he said 363 seva centres were opened all over the state for the benefit of voters in the districts. Voters could get their colour EPIC cards from taluk offices, RDO offices and collectorates. Over the last two days, nearly 10,000 had applied for colour EPIC cards in the districts, he concluded.
Regarding poll work, he said 3.03 lakh government officials and teachers would be used for election work in addition to 75,000 police personnel and 40,000 drivers and videographers.
