CHENNAI: Industries Minister TRB Raaja said an air-conditioned double-decker sightseeing bus for tourists would be flagged off by the Chief Minister on January 12 in Chennai, marking the outcome of efforts initiated during the Chief Minister’s recent visit to the United States.
In a social media post on Thursday, the Minister said that during the visit, the Chief Minister had appealed to the Tamil diaspora to support the State’s tourism sector in all possible ways. Responding positively, members of the diaspora came forward to raise funds for a sightseeing bus.
He added that the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce had also approached Ashok Leyland to extend support through its corporate social responsibility initiatives. As a result, an air-conditioned double-decker bus has now been readied to ferry tourists across the city.
The bus will be formally flagged off at the ‘non-Resident Tamils' Day’ event to be held at the Chennai Trade Centre. The Minister said special attention had been paid to the design of the bus to ensure that the visual elements do not obstruct the view for passengers inside.
