Madurai
Judge R Gayathri Devi sent him to judicial custody till October 17 and directed the police to produce him before the JM Court at Sattur on the day. Later, he was lodged in the Madurai Central Prison. They said Rafeeq, running a CD shop in Kovilpatti, is the father of Abdullah, a college student who was murdered at Kovilpatti. Abdullah was murdered by Mandiramoorthy and Kanagaraj, who were brothers, on July 2, following a petty quarrel over a 2-wheeler. Following this both were lodged in prison. Rafeeq was desperate to take revenge on the brothers for his son’s murder. Karuppasamy, brother of Mandiramoorthy and Kanagaraj, was shot dead in a running Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus at Sattur in Virudhunagar district yesterday.
The assailant, who was also travelling in the same bus that was proceeding from Nagercoil to Coimbatore, fired at the back of Karuppasamy’s head at point blank range with a country-made pistol, killing him on the spot. The assailant managed to escape after the driver applied brake on hearing scream of the passengers. Police said Rafiq has been hiding after the murder of K Karuppsamy. In the meantime, Virudhunagar police secured nine more accused connected with the murder case. They are being interrogated in an undisclosed location. Sources claim that interrogation is about the persons actually involved in the incident and how the country-made gun was procured. Five special teams were formed and police went in search of the accused to Kovilpatti on Wednesday night and secured nine persons who were linked to Rafeeq’s family.
