CHENNAI: In Chennai Central – Gummidipundi Section stations like Tondiarpet, Korukkupet, VOC Nagar, Chennai Central – Jolarpettai and Chennai Central – Arakkonam Sections stations like Vyasarpadi Jeeva, Perambur Carriage Works, Veppampattu are covered for CCTV installation.
“In major stations 30-40 cameras would be installed and in smaller stations around 10-15 cameras are planned depending on the vulnerable locations,” said a senior SR official.
The cameras are installed under both Nirbhaya scheme and RailTel scheme, and will be operational by the next financial year. “In all the new coaches manufactured by ICF in suburban trains, CCTVs are installed,” he added.

In addition, 19 high-risk points and critical crossing locations including Ponneri, Kavaraippettai are already under CCTV monitoring.
The cameras cover platforms, station entrances and exits, booking offices, foot over bridges, and circulating areas, enabling the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to respond quickly to emergencies, manage crowds efficiently, and assist passengers whenever needed, added the release.
