Talking to a TV channel over phone from Trabzone in Turkey, about 800 km from the capital city of Ankara, Tamilselvi of Royapuram in Chennai, who was part of the team, said they were safe and have requested the Indian government to help them to return home safely.

The event continues till July 18 and it was not known whether the remaining events would be completed or not, she said. Tamilselvi said a few hours ago one of our parents called and informed us about the bomb blast in Turkey. ‘’We are currently staying in the Games Village at Trabzone and there is no problem here’’, she said, along with other TN students.

‘’We have been advised to stay in the village itself and not venture out’’, she added. ‘’From here, we have to go to Ankara to take a flight to Istanbul and then reach Delhi,” she added. Her father Venkateshwaran, who was in a state of panic, requested the State and Central governments to take necessary steps to bring her daughter and other members back home safely. Meanwhile, talking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan said the government would take all necessary action to ensure the safety of Indians in Turkey. “I will talk to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for bringing back the athletes safely,’’ he added.
