10 Richest candidates in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2016

Association for Democratic Reforms, a non-profitable watch body on democratic exercises has released a list of richest candidates who are millionaires on their own. The list contains well-known political bigwigs along with few surprises.

1. Prominent businessman in Tamil Nadu H Vasantha Kumar of INC is the founder and proprietor of Vasanth & Co. With a career in retail spanning for nearly 40 years, his asset valuation today is around Rs. 337 crores, according to the affidavit filed by him. 

2. M.K. Mohan, DMK candidate from Anna Nagar (Chennai) holds the 2nd place with Rs. 170 crores in assets.

3. Third place is attained by none other than the Chief Minister of the state J. Jayalalithaa who owns assets worth Rs. 113 crores. 

4. Ex-minister K.C. Palanisami of DMK occupies the 4th place in the list with assets worth Rs. 111 crores. 

5. Actor R Sarath Kumar of SMK has claimed assets of Rs. 64 crores, which is surprisingly 2 crores more than the DMK supremo M Karunanidhi. 

6. DMK leader and ex- chief Minister M Karunanidhi has hit the list at 6th place with total asset valuation of Rs. 62 Crore. 

7. The 7th place belongs to Rani Venkatesan of INC with Rs. 56 crores worth of assets in her possession. 

8. BJP candidate and a leader of Yadava caste outfit Devenathan Yadav T is listed at 8th position with Rs. 56 crores.

9. DMDK founder and current leader of opposition Vijayakant has claimed assets worth Rs. 53 crores.

10. The last spot goes to N Elango of TMC (Moopanar) with Rs. 44 crores. 

Among the ten above mentioned candidates Rani Venkatesan, N Elango and Devenathan Yadav are the newest entrants in the millionaire candidates list.
