Chennai Super Kings sees net profit decline 11% in FY26

CHENNAI: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reported a 11% dip in net profit to Rs 16,163.48 lakh for the year ended March 31, 2026 against Rs 18,094.22 lakh in the previous year.

The Season XIX of the Indian Premier League commenced on 28th March 2026 and the matches were played up to 31st May 2026. 

As per CSK's annual report 2026, while the IPL franchise CSK did not qualify for the knockouts, it remained optimistic of a strong comeback and an improved performance in the upcoming season.

During the year under review, the total revenue of Chennai Super Kings was Rs 63,646.08 lakh down from Rs 64,399.98 lakh in the previous year. Revenue from operations increased to Rs 62,211.84 Lakh from Rs 61,547.95 Lakh in the previous year, a rise of Rs 663.89 lakh.

This increase is despite the reduction in Central Rights income by Rs 3,806.03 lakh to Rs 43,043.38 lakh (previous year: Rs 46,849.41 lakh). The reduction in Central Rights Income is due to the standing of the team at the tenth position in IPL 2025 as against the fifth position in IPL 2024.

This decline was more than offset by higher sponsorship income and other tournament-related income, as per the annual report.

Other income also declined to Rs 1,434.24 lakh from Rs 2,852.03 lakh due to a decrease in interest income. The surplus funds, during the year under review, have been redeployed from inter corporate deposits in the previous year to mutual funds, resulting in the reduction in interest income.

The total expenses of the CSK were higher by Rs 1,781.98 lakh compared to the previous year, primarily on account of an increase in cost of operations in line with the growth in operational revenue, together with an increase in employee benefits expenses on account of deployment of more full-time resources and the consequent increase in headcount.

The total comprehensive income stood at Rs 16,158.69 lakh for the year under review against Rs 18,091.22 lakh in the previous year.

CSK's annual general meeting, to be held on September 25 through video conferencing, is expected to be chaired by chairman N Srinivasan. His daughter Rupa Gurunath is whole-time director.
