Restaurants in Goa would open after June 8, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday, adding that barring mass prayers and functions, places of religious worship could also be opened with restricted public access.

"Restaurants will begin after June 8. They have to maintain social distancing," Sawant told a press conference in Panaji on Friday.

Tourism industry stakeholders in Goa have in the recent past requested the state government to open restaurants as well as hotels in the tourist state.

When asked as to whether temples, churches, mosques and other places of religious worship would be allowed to open in Goa, Sawant said: "As long as there are no functions or mass prayers conducted. They could allow people for routine individual prayers and darshan".
