As many as 90 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Thursday, taking the total number of such cases in the coastal state to 2,478, a health department official said.
Of the 90 new cases, 79 are from different quarantine centres where people have been put up following their return from other parts of the country. Eleven others were diagnosed with the disease during contact tracing, the official said.
Khurda district reported the maximum number of cases at 25, followed by Ganjam at 22.
Taking the new cases into account, the state's total count mounted to 2,478. Of them, 1,416 patients have recovered. The number of active cases stands at 1,053.
Seven people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the state, while two other coronavirus-afflicted patients died of pre-existing ailments, the health department said.
As many as 2,933 samples were tested in the state until Wednesday. The total number of samples examined so far climbed to 1,65,824.
Odisha, which had reported its first COVID-19 case on March 15, has at least eight districts where more than 100 cases have been registered.
Ganjam tops the list with 521 cases, followed by Jajpur at 290, Khurda at 195, Balasore at 179, Kendrapara at 161, Bhadrak 132, Cuttack at 131, and Bolangir at 102.
