A 42-year-old official of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Dantewada district, police said on Sunday.
Assistant Platoon Commander Raju Gurung, from CAF's 9th battalion, shot himself with his service rifle on Saturday night at his barrack in Dantewada, located around 400 km from Raipur, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava told PTI.
When his colleagues heard the gunshot, they rushed to his barrack and found him lying in a pool of blood, he said.
Gurung was immediately rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, Pallava said.
No suicide note was found at the spot, he said, adding that a probe was on to ascertain the exact reason behind his extreme step.
His family members were informed about the incident.
As per preliminary information, Gurung, a native of Ameri village in Bilaspur district, had earlier also tried to commit suicide following which a departmental inquiry was underway against him, the official said.
