Supreme court issues notice to centre, calls for regulation of content on online streaming platforms
The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the centre to regulate the content on the online streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Hotstar.

The notice was issued regarding a Public Interest Litigation that was earlier filed by the NGO Justice for Rights.Â
The PIL plea claims that these platforms streamed uncertified and unregulated content in addition to being unregulated by any guidelines.
The plea was dismissed on February citing that since the law didn't dictate the platforms to acquire any licence, no directives can be issued to make them get one.
The response to this notice would be crucial at a stage where the number of people using the above mentioned online streaming platforms is on the rise.
