    Lok Sabha elections, Phase 4: 44.26 per cent of votes cast by 3 pm in Bihar

    A total 44.26 per cent of 87.74 lakh electorate cast their votes till 3 pm in five Lok Sabha constituencies in the fourth phase of polling in Bihar on Monday, EC official said.

    They cast their votes in 8834 polling stations to decide the fate of 66 candidates, three of them women.

    Peaceful polling is on in five Lok Sabha constituencies of Darbhanga, Ujiarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai and Munger, where a total 16239 poll personnel have been deployed for conducting election, the official said.

    As  per the poll figure released by the office of the Bihar chief electoral officer Munger recorded the highest voters turnout at 47 per cent by 3 pm, followed by Begusarai at 46.8 per cent, Darbhanga 43.4, Samastipur 42 per cent and Ujiarpur 41.21 per cent.

    Prominent among those who cast their votes in today's polling included Bihar Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary, CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, former union minister Mohd Ali Ashraf Fatmi and Bihar Congress chief Madan Mohan Jha.

    A few incidents of malfunctioning by EVMs and poll boycott were reported from a few places.

    Voting was delayed due to EVM malfunctioning at three polling stations in Munger, two polling stations in Darbhanga, three polling stations in Begusarai due to technical glitches, official sources said adding that polling began an hour after the scheduled start at 7 am.

    People boycotted voting at a polling station in Rajwara village of Teghra assembly segment of Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency and at Narsara village under Bahadurpur assembly segment of Darbhanga constituency due to lack development workin road connectivity and water supply their villages, EC sources said.
