    ONGC signs agreement to fund two bio-villages in Tripura

    The state-owned exploration giant ONGC has entered into an  agreement with Tripura government yesterday to fund for developing two  model bio-villages in the state to supplement the Chief Minister's  vision to make Tripura a model of development.

    The officials of Directorate of  Bio-Technology have signed the agreement in presence of Deputy Chief  Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and Minister for Science, Technology and  Environment Sudip Roy Barman in a ceremony here.

    The  first bio-village project will be set up at Amtali village under  Charilam RD Block near Agartala and another will be at Echamuah under  Agartala Municipal Corporation. At least 280 members of 85 households  belonging to farming community of villages would be benefited under the  ambitious project.

    The Bio-village projects aim to make a  holistic development of socio-economy for rural community with the  application of eco-friendly technologies. The components included in the  Bio-village project are, distribution of Energy saving electronic  gadget (LED Bulb & Fan), Biotech Kit, Mushroom, Bee keeping and  Biogas Unit.

    Launching the project Deputy Chief Minister Dev Varma said, these Bio-village projects make the way for sustainable  development of the society and also to motivate entrepreneurship and  makes the environment cleaner and greener.

    "It seems to be an  excellent eco-friendly approach, in a time when we all are concerned  about the consequences of indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides on  environment and Agricultural produce. The ill effects of chemical  pesticide causing diseases like Gastric, Neuro problem, cancer and many  more to the human being besides polluting water, soil & air  substantially", pointed out Environment minister Roy Barman.

    However,  ONGC Asset Manager G K Singha Roy said that this initiative is a step  towards solving the problems of unemployment of Tripura and bringing to  the forefront bio-employment policies co-related with economic reality,  there by promoting green employment in the green State of Tripura.

    The  projects will emphasis Skill Development activities in the villages,  which will ultimately result into sustainable development of a village  and virtually transform a group of farmers into budding entrepreneur.  ONGC has spent more than Rs. 40 Crore under CSR head and announced to  fund more if required.
