AIADMK legislator Vayyapuri Manikandan on Sunday urged the government to take immediate steps to put an end to the strike by the employees of the electricity department here. The strike entered the fourth day on Sunday.

In a statement, Manikandan said the Congress-DMK government had failed to implement any schemes and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, in a bid to hide his ‘inefficiency’, is blaming the Lieutenant-Governor’s office for everything.
The electricity department employees approached the government time and again with their demands and postponed their strike several times following requests by the government. However, the government failed to consider their demands and was encouraging privatisation in the department, forcing them to go on an indefinite strike.
When students are preparing for Class 10 and Class 12 public examinations, any outage will be a setback to them, Manikandan said.
He pointed out that in his Muthialpet area there was a power failure and it was restored only after eight hours after the intervention of the senior officials. The AIADMK legislator said people will not tolerate this for long and the government, without forcing them to come out to the streets, should hold discussions with the employees to resolve the issue.
