Demise of MK, Somnath, Vajapyee condoled
Puducherry Legislative Assembly on Friday adopted obituary resolutions on the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former DMK President M Karunanidhi, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former UN General Secretary Koffi Annan and former Puducherry Minister Kasilaingam.

Moving the resolutions, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy paid glowing tributes to the late leaders. DMK member R Siva demanded that the chief minister should forthwith fulfil his promises of setting up a statue for Karunanidhi, naming a street here after him and setting up a chair in his name at the Pondicherry University. Siva condoled the death of all the five leaders. BJP(nominated) member Saminathan demanded that either the statue of Vajpayee be installed here or the Puducherry Airport be named after him.
AIADMK legislature party leader Anbazhagan said that it was the chief minister who had announced that a statue for Jayalalithaa would be erected here and he should fulfill it without any political discrimination.Â
Anbazhagan demanded that the government should immediately constitute committees to install also to former Puducherry Chief Ministers MOH Farook and P Shanmugham.
PWD Minister A Namasivayam also put forth the demand to set up a statue for Karunanidhi. Speaker V Vaithilingam and leader of the Opposition N Rangasamy also paid tributes to the late leaders following which the resolution was adopted. The house also condoled the death of former Puducherry legislator Panjavarnam from Kottucherry constituency in Karaikal region and Union Minister Ananth Kumar.
Pondy Assembly adjourned sine die
The Puducherry Legislative Assembly on Friday adjourned sine die after a nearly four-hour long session. The session was re-convened to adopt a resolution condemning Karnataka for its move to construct a dam across Cauvery river at Mekedatu. The house also passed the Puducherry Goods and Service Taxes (amendment) bill 2018.
