Playing the development card in a bid to woo the electorate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dispensation has solved the water crisis that was plaguing Bundelkhand region for decades when the Congress ruled at the Centre and in Madhya Pradesh.
Addressing a public meeting in this district headquarters, the Premier averred that in the past 15 years several endeavours were made towards conservation and ensuring that the region's peasants received the life-giving fluid.
"You have borne witness to transformation in Bundelkhand. The change was brought about not by kings but by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. When you exercise your franchise, you must remember the reason why 15 years back you ousted the Congress," Mr Modi said while on the campaign trail as Madhya Pradesh hurtles towards voting day - November 28.
The visiting politician said that those who have crossed the threshold of 40 years of age well remember the tribulations they suffered during Congress rule.
"Will you let your children experience the same woes? Did you like the life you lived back then? If you don't want to return to that existence, take a decision," he urged.
Mr Modi alleged that the Congress has lost courage to compete with him therefore its functionaries descended to targeting his mother during the electoral battle in five states.
"Four generations of the Congress versus four years of a tea-seller! They are not ready to speak about the dizzying heights to which we have taken our country. Whenever there is a fight in a residential colony, you must have observed how the person who doesn't have truth on his or her side starts abusing your mother. They (the Congress) are abusing the mother of a Prime Minister, a lady who does not even comprehend politics," he said.
Mr Modi claimed that as polling day fast approaches, enthusiasm for the saffron party is on the upward spiral. Who will "bail out" whom is the Congress' worry.
