Avoid dumping garbage into drainage, urges Bedi
Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Saturday said rainwater stagnation could be prevented if garbage was cleared with the co-operation of people.

Talking to mediapersons after visiting the low-lying areas here along with officials of several departments including the PWD, Bedi said rain needs to be welcomed and stagnation can be avoided if people do not to throw plastic into the drainage.
She said in the wake of prediction of heavy rain for Puducherry during the next few days, as many as 186 relief camps were ready to accommodate the affected persons.
Disaster Management Department Director Pankaj Kumar Jha said that 14 satellite phones were obtained from the Central government which would be used by officials during emergency. The 16 coastal villages here will be under strict vigil, he added.
Meanwhile, the people of Puducherry heaved a sigh of relief as there was no rain on Saturday after two continuous days of showers.
The official machinery is on full alert in view of the heavy rainfall warning for Puducherry during the next few days.
