The union home ministry has advised Tripura government to enhance the security of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb following an intelligence input, which revealed drug mafias of the state hatched a blue print to kill the chief minister because his crusade against drug abuse has already taken a toll.
The state home department sources said that immediately after getting alert two days ago from the union ministry appropriate measures have been taken for the chief minister and his family members. At the same time, security has been beefed up in chief minister's residence and civil secretariat.
At present Chief Minister Deb is under Y category security coverage and process has been undertaken to bring him under Z category security following fresh threat on his life. Apart from that special arrangement has been made to get intelligence input before each and every movement.
According to report, drugs dealers of the region last week had a meeting in Myanmar and planned to mobilize professional killer(s) to assassinate the chief minister. This drugs racket deals mainly with synthetic drugs like Yaba and heroin, usually come to Tripura and from Myanmar and other Asian countries through Mizoram and go to Bangladesh and other parts of India.
"We received a feedback from the police about Chief Minister is being targeted by drug paddlers for launching massive crack down on the drug and ganja smuggling," said BJP state general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee adding that the biggest conspiracy against chief minster was hatched with the involvement of a powerful lobby in Tripura following CM's tirade against drug and cannabis smuggling.
"The steps have been taken for chief minister's security not only in Tripura, also in outside the state," Bhattacharjee pointed out.
Further, he added that BJP-IPFT government in the state has been working to make drug abuse free Tripura and holistic development of the state at par with rest of the country in next three years, which made a corrupt section unhappy.
However, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, "I don't know such issues but of course the action against drug paddlers and dealers undertaken by my government have made huge difference. It is obvious, the criminals will be assembled and will try to disturb us but we are committed to make our mission successful soon."
He also alleged that illegal drug business flourished in Tripura with the patronize of previous left front government and it developed a parallel economy and destroyed young generation of Tripura. Had Manik Sarkar made timely intervention and stop supporting them, it would not be an issue for the government and administration can do much more in other front.
More than 250 persons were arrested and contraband drug including cannabis worth of few hundred crore were seized in Tripura during last six months of BJP-IPFT government. Abuse of drug and other illegal activities were substantially reduced in the state now but seriously affected the flow of money in market.
