Lt Governor revisits Bangaru Channel
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, as part of ‘Mission Puducherry Water Rich’, dedicated the 190th weekend morning round for re-visit to the origin point of Bangaru Channel from Sornavur anaicut.

According to a Raj Nivas release on Sunday, Dewesh Singh, IAS Secretary (Public Works), Abhijit Chaudary Vijay, District Collector, Rudra Gowd, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Tamarai Pugazehndi Executive Engineer, Block Development Officer, Ariyankuppam Block, Commissioner of Bahour Commune, Officers of Science and Technology and others accompanied the Lt Governor.
The Bangaru Channel feeds water to 13 Tanks in Puducherry, including Bahour lake, the largest lake of Puducherry and another eight tanks in Tamil Nadu. Along with Sitheri channel it is the main source of feed channel for water to Bahour Village, the rice bowl of Puducherry and other adjoining villages.
It was decided after the visit that the Public Works Department will hasten the process of awarding the work of desilting the channel following due process as per rules.
The de-silting work shall be carried out in a time bound manner and get completed well before onset of North East Monsoon.
The Public Works Department will coordinate with Rural Development to assess the number of feeder channels for which NOC was given to take up desilting under MNREGA and demarcate the works to be executed by it and that under MNREGA among other things.
