Pondy CM inaugurates smart classroom in govt school
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy inaugurated a smart class room in the Poornamkuppam government middle school here on Friday.

The smart class rooms are being set up in association with SPI technology which have its headquarters at Philippines. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the government could not do everything alone and the participation of private parties and NGOs would ensure development of the union territory. When contacted the SPI Technology has agreed to set up smart class rooms in 58 schools at a cost of Rs 75 lakhs. Of this 50 schools will be in Puducherry and eight in Karaikal, he said.
The chief minister said that a vast change has taken place in the education system and now students are learning with screens sans books. We also need to change to such system. Smart classes are there in US, England, France and even in North India. Our students could understand better in smartÂ
class rooms, he said.
He said in higher education Puducherry stood fifth at the national level. School education should also be brought to that level, he said adding that with this in view, a counselling was conducted for teachers last year which helped them to improve.
However, it was not up to the expectations, he said adding that of the 27,000 government employees here nine thousand are teachers. Compared to other states more fund is being spent for teachers and hence teachers should dedicate themselves to provide quality education.
