The Telugu Desam Party, which was the first to seek the no-confidence motion, will initiate the debate and Rahul Gandhi will be the Congress's lead speaker.
Chennai
The ruling party BJP is not leaving any stone unturned to prove their strength and to make the opposition regret its decision to seek no-trust vote in the Lok Sabha. The no-trust motion will start at 11:00 am on Friday.
The no-trust motion in Parliament that was proposed by TDP was accepted by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on the very first day of the Parliament's winter session. This comes as the first no-trust motion in 15 years and it does not pose a threat to BJP as it enjoys a comfortable majority.
In August 2003, the Congress with the help of other opposition parties had moved a no-confidence motion against the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government but it was defeated by a huge margin.
Trinamool Congress has issued a whip to its Lok Sabha MPs asking them to be present in the House on July 20 when the opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion would be taken up for discussion. The TMC on July 18 had announced that the party will support the no-confidence motion in the interest of the unity of opposition parties.
