Kathua, a new ploy against Muslims: IS man

A message on an online app seems to have created a furore. The text, by an Indian supporter of IS, holed up somewhere in Afghanistan, cites the Asifa rape case as a strategy by Hindus to chase away Muslims.

The message also decries the attitude of ‘hashtag’ supporters on social media platform, indicating that IS is frustrated over the dwindling interest of Indian Muslims on its activities.

Intelligence sources said that among others, one person named Abu Isa, who has left his home town in Kerala, has been sending messages to Indian groups to allegedly brainwash IS sympathisers.

So far, more than 60 such messages have been sent by him. Most of his messages indicate that they are looking for immediate recruitment of fighters for IS. “We need Jihad and Khilafat (Caliphate). Not just hashtags on Facebook. There is no use in writing comments and posts there. Nothing is happening towards jihad except in Kashmir,” says the message, sources, who listened to the audio clip said. “You know why cases like Asifa happen? Hindus want to chase away Muslims. That is why we need Shariat law to punish such criminals,” the IS man says in the message further.

Police sources here however noted that it is almost impossible for investigating agencies to detect the origins of social media messages because people behind them are based in places that cannot be accessed by them.
