60-strong SPG team to handle Modi’s security during DefExpo
A 60-member strong SPG team headed by DIG SK Sharma is already camping in Chennai — in lieu of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit — and checking the two venues and its surroundings since Tuesday, sources said.Â
The first round of meeting with various security agencies and stake holders on Tuesday at Old Airport discussed issues related to PM’s security in the back ground of raging CMB protest in the state.Â
Apart from Chennai police, Kancheepuram police will also be taking care of security of the PM during his visit to the state on Thursday. Sources said that PM was advised to take air route to various venues from Chennai airport by his security experts to avoid black flags en route.Â
Narendra Modi who will be arriving at 9.20 am at Old airport in IAF flight will leave for Mahabalipuram DefExpo venue five minutes later. He would reach the Mahabalipuram helipad by 9.50 am to participate in the function which is expected to start at 10 am.Â
The PM is then scheduled to travel by road over 11 km to DefExpo venue in Tiruvidanthai. Sources said that security agencies are exploring the possibility of taking PM directly to the venue by chopper so that he can avoid road stretch between Mahabalipuram and Tiruvidanthai.
