10 technology transfers to private bodies at expo

Over the last three years, DRDO and agencies under its umbrella have executed more than 175 technology transfers to industry. At the DefExpo, the licensing agreement for ten more were inked.

DRDO Chief S Christopher said that the number of ToTs have grown exponentially after the announcement of the Defence corridors. He added that it will create many job opportunities and increase the capability potential. 

The TOT agreements include the signing of licensing agreement for technologies such as the Astra missile system from Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hyderabad, Varunastra (heavy weight torpedo) to BDL, Anti-thermal and anti-laser grenade to Pune Ordnance Factory and Economic Explosives Limited, Nagpur, Identification of Friend of Foe (IFF) systems to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru, Data Patterns India from Chennai and Alpha Designs from Bengaluru.

CAIR’s GIS technology as well as Humsa and Abhay sonar systems have been transferred to BEL. Sonar Dome technology was transferred to Kineco Goa while the Manik small turbo fan engine was licenced to the three companies, Lakshmi Machine Works from Coimbatore, Brahmos aerospace from Trivandrum and Bharat Forge Limited. 

The sum of Rs 191 crore, which was accrued through ToT over the last three years, was presented to Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
