    Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally launched the prestigious World Congress (WC) on Information Technology (IT) and Nasscom India Leadership Forum 2018 through Video-Conference  on Monday.

    Addressing the participants drawn from more than 80 countries, Mr Modi said that the country was marching towards "Digital India" adding that the government's efforts  alone in this direction would not be enough.

    Stating that digital transactions were resulting in savings to the state exchequer, he said Rs 57,000 crore were accrued through "Jan-Dhan"  scheme, a National Mission for financial inclusion.

    Mr Modi said that one lakh villages  were provided optical fiber digital connectivity and 60 million people were made digital literates in the country.

    The three-day event will feature 50 sessions to be delivered by more than 200 global thought leaders.

    Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was the chief guest. He will later chair Ministers round-table meeting on "rethinking governance in a digital economy"

    Telangana IT minister K.T.Rama Rao  besides Ministers from Sri Lanka, Bangaladesh, Armenia and other countries were present.
