Mr Modi arrived here from New Delhi by a special aircraft at around 15:30 hours and was welcomed by Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with his cabinet colleagues.

During his brief visit, the Prime Minister is to lay the foundation stone of Navi Mumbai Airport, inaugurate the Magnetic Maharashtra investors summit and also inaugurate the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence at the University of Mumbai.

Following his reception, Mr Modi along with the Governor and Chief Minister headed for laying the foundation of another international airport in Navi Mumbai.

The airport is being developed on a public-private partnership basis between government agency CIDCO and GVK-Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). GVK will hold 74 per cent stake in the project.

The airport complex will be spread over 2,268 hectares of land, of which nearly 1,160 hectares will be used for aeronautical purposes.

At the same event, he will also dedicate to the nation the fourth container terminal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). This will be India's largest container terminal.

The terminal will be able to dock mother vessels and handle the biggest container ships.

The Prime Minister will then deliver the inaugural speech at the Global Investors' Summit - 'Magnetic Maharashtra: Convergence 2018'.

Later in the evening, he will also inaugurate the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence at the University of Mumbai.
