The Dalit leader along with other leaders such as KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, former JNU student leaders Shehla Rashid, Kanhaiya Kumar, Umer Khalid, AMU Women's College President Naba, Bhim Army chief Vinay Ratan, Lucknow University student leader Pooja Shukla are participating in the rally.Â
Mr Mevani announced to hold 'Yuva Hunkar Rally' on Tuesday to highlight issues like social justice, unemployment and atrocities against Dalits.Â
However, Delhi Police denied permission to hold rally citing National Green Tribunal's order to ban protest in the Jantar Mantar area.
Earlier in the day, Mr Mevani's supporters were stopped by police from holding rally at Ambedkar Park in Rani Garden in the East Delhi area.
Mr Mevani said the police decision to deny permission to hold rally was unfortunate.
The Government is targeting us and elected representatives are not allowed to speak. We want to talk about employment and social justice. But the government is not allowing to talk democratically, he said.
Hours before the rally, Mr Mevani tweeted that time has come for the BJP to 'pack its bags' and its rule would end soon.
