However, train service from Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north will continue and all trains will operate as per schedule, a railway official told UNI.
He said an advisory has been received from police to suspend train in south Kashmir on Tuesday. Therefore, he said, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. Large number of passengers, who had arrived at railway stations, were disappointed after they were informed about the suspension of the train service this morning in south Kashmir.
Railway official said, "Today, we were expecting heavy rush of passengers as people, mostly employees, had to rejoin their duties after Sunday and Christmas holidays. Railway has become a very popular service among the people because it is considered cheap, safe and fast as compared to other mode of transport available in the valley".
This is the 51st time, train service has been suspended partially or fully in the Kashmir valley this year, causing a loss of more than Rs 1.50 crore to railways.
